#WIPpet Wednesday: Squeak, Squeak, Squeak

Mini Update
This is hard to write today. I don’t want to write anything whining or negative.  Short version?  Life has been very much happening in a stressful manner.  Positive side is that I think it’s done. (I totally knocked on wood after typing that.)  I’m looking forward to today and less stress.  (Knocked again.)

WIPpetWedWhat’s WIPpet Wednesday?
Wednesday is for the day of the week I (and others) share a WIPpet.  The word WIPpet is the joining of the word snippet with the acronym WIP, which stands for Work In Progress.  Using the date to conjure up a math formula, WIPpeteers (the group of people that share WIPpets) figure out how much to share.

My WIPpet Math
The date is 11/12/14.  For the page we’ll add together all the ones!  1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = Page 4.  For the amount we’ll add the rest. 2 + 4 = 6 Short Paragraphs.

What’s My WIPpet?
I’m sticking with HAMSTER even though I started the sequel code named RATS.  I figure I can do that as these are all part of my NaNoWriMo project.  Anyways, the Collins family is awake at 11:21 and piled into Charles’ room.  The hamster has a squeaky, they’re never gonna sleep again wheel.

This Week’s WIPpet
“Darcy, can’t you search the internet for an answer to this?” he asked.

His sister smiled with glee. She loved looking stuff up on her laptop and learning new things. But, their dad had a rule about no electronics past seven o’clock.

“It’s an emergency,” said Mr. Collins. “Just this once.”

Darcy ran back to her room and left the other two to suffer the squeaks for a bit. When she came back, she was carrying her laptop.

“It says hamster are known to run long distances in the wild. Over five miles in one night,” Darcy said rather impressed.

“That’s nice, Darcy. But, how do we stop the wheeling from squeaking?” asked Mr. Collins.

A hamster can run five miles!! That’s impressive. I don’t think I could run five miles.

I hope the life stress is getting better, or continues to get better. There seems to always be something, but at times that ‘something’ becomes way more than enough. So here’s to better days ahead. And just glanced over at your twitter feed — I’m in complete agreement about the wine carbs. 😉

    • It’s amazing how much they run and because of that having a proper wheel is super important. I bought one that’s called a silent spinner and is 12 inches big. However, Queenie refuses to run if anyone is in the room.

I’m sad to say the stress continues (two new things this morning). I’m thankful for yoga. My mantra today was “I can handle it.” And my husband’s wine carb rule will hopefully help me. Best. Rule. Ever. 😉

  2. haha oil and grease!

I hope the stress gets better in your life. I was there last week, and it sucks! *knocks on wood for you*

    • Oil yes… But, only vegetable or olive oil. That way if the hamster investigates it, the hamster won’t be poisoned. I had a squeaky wheel and I can promise you, that the first thing after you oil it, the hamster will investigate and by that I mean chew and lick it all over.

Apparently I didn’t knock enough wood. But I can handle it.

  3. UGH, the squeaky hamster wheel! Been there.

Knocking on wood for you here, too.

  4. WD-40? Or is it duct tape? How’s that rule go, again? If it moves but shouldn’t, use duct tape. If it doesn’t move but should, use WD-40. I should probably use some of the latter on my rear…

ANYway, very nice snippet. 🙂 I always enjoy your stories. I hope the stressness does, indeed, let up on you. Big hugs!!!

    • My friend was having problems with his car door and the first thing out of my mouth was “Did you try WD-40?” And when the handle fell off my Swiffer vac, I used duct tape to put it back on. So I can’t help, but agree… Just not when it comes to hamsters! 😉

I’m trying my best to weave story and information here, so to know it is as enjoyable as my regular fiction… YAY!

I think the stress might be here to stay and I need to just cope with it. After all, as I mantra’ed through yoga, “I can handle it.”

  5. I hope things start to improve for you 🙂 It sucks when we have to force ourselves to do the things we normally love. And sometimes it can take a while to see the positives – even when we knock on wood. Be well. I’m sending you an virtual hug.

I really enjoyed the snippet. I could see this scene playing out quite vividly, and I enjoyed the humour of it.

  6. Aw, I’m sorry about the stress. It’s too bad WD-40 and duct tape won’t help that.

I didn’t know hamsters ran that far! Wow. No wonder they need a wheel. Daaaaang.

  7. hahaha, love the “emergency.” Sounds annoying. And did you see the video of this poor hamster? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gIH94st0mY

  8. Nice excerpt Gloria. I like the way Mr Collins is getting slightly impatient with Darcy. I hope they get the wheel sorted out though. That can’t be nice, having a squeaking sound going on all night when you’re trying to sleep! 🙂
