Comic Review: Captain Marvel Vol 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More

Comic Theme (7).pngOnce upon a time she was simply Miss, but she got a promotion after being absorbed by Rogue?  I’m such a comic noob!  A new Captain Marvel #1 came out this year, but in 2014 there was also a new #1.  Let’s go back in time!  I’m talking about the trade paper back, CAPTAIN MARVEL, VOL 1: HIGHER, FURTHER, FASTER, MORE.

Blurb (from goodreads):
Hero! Pilot! Avenger! Captain Marvel, Earth’s Mightiest Hero with an attitude to match, is back and launching headfirst into an all-new ongoing adventure! As Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers, comes to a crossroads with a new life and new romance, she makes a dramatic decision that will alter the course of her life – and the entire Marvel Universe – in the months to come. But as Carol takes on a mission to return an alien girl to her homeworld, she lands in the middle of an uprising against the Galactic Alliance! Investigating the forced resettlement of Rocket Girl’s people, Carol discovers that she has a history with the man behind the plot. But when the bad guy tries to blackmail Carol and turn the Avengers against her, it’s payback time! Guest-starring the Guardians of the Galaxy! COLLECTING: CAPTAIN MARVEL 1-6

Why I Got It:
It was on my Amazon Wishlist.  My husband bought it for me.  I put a few titles on there before the holidays to round out my hero knowledge.

Solid.  Nothing bad.  Liked it.  Just didn’t love it or think there was anything special about it.

Story: 6

At the end of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (the movie), the “bad guys” said it was a good thing they didn’t give Star Lord to his dad.  They basically called Star Lord’s dad (J’son) a bigger jerk than themselves.  They were totally right and this book shows you why.

I know, this book is Captain Marvel’s deal.  And she’s awesome!  She’s sassy, competent, wipes the floor with people, and all the great things.  However, she couldn’t shine like she did without a good villain in play.

Intangible: 6

I now have the second volume (STAY FLY) on my wishlist.  Also, I’m super excited to see Kelly Sue DeConnick (she’s the writer) at In-Store Convention Kick-Off March 5th!

Speaking of In-Store Convention Kick-Off…  Convention-Kick-Off-Logo-v21

I’ll be attending it at
ROBOT ZERO – 23 West Main Street – Geneva, Ohio!
I’ll also have copies of UNMASKING: LEMON’S THESIS for sale/signing.
If you can drop by, please do!
