WIPpet Wednesday: Grandma

WIPpetWedWhat’s WIPpet Wednesday?
Wednesday is for the day of the week I (and others) share a WIPpet.  The word WIPpet is the joining of the word snippet with the acronym WIP, which stands for Work In Progress.  Using the date to conjure up a math formula, WIPpeteers (the group of people that share WIPpets) figure out how much to share.

My WIPpet Math
If you didn’t notice, I have been sharing a bit from every page I have.  In other words, last week I did page 14, and this week I want to do page 15.  So we’ll ugly up the math to get that page.  We’ll take the bold numbers of the date – 3/26/2014 – and add them to get 15. That leaves us with 2 + 0 + 1 = 3  for paragraphs.

What’s My WIPpet?
This is the next part of my MG novel, GRANDMA.  And on this page is a big spoiler.  It explains a bit about the tree.  And I’m not sharing that with you.  MUAHAHAHA!  What am I going to share?  Well, how about a bit of conversation?  Now that there is an adult within shouting distance, Lizzie and George have calmed a bit.  Only, how much help can she be?

This Week’s WIPpet
“The tree? Oh! Oh, no. So something odd has happened out there as well?” Grandma sounded as if she returned to being concerned once more.

“As well?” I asked.

“I can’t leave my bedroom,” she told us.

Uh-oh! Can’t leave her bedroom?!!? The house is truly someplace I don’t think I want to visit.

    • Yeah. The entry and Grandma’s situation isn’t fun. Now that I think about it… The laundry room or the second bathroom might be the only okay places.

  2. Oh no! I wonder what’s keeping Grandma trapped in the bedroom. I’m very impressed with how well you’re stringing us along with this–you’ve certainly grabbed my interest.

    • You know, I’m not sure if you’ll find out. Question is, will I hit the spot that reveals it before summer or not. I’ll reveal it for sure if I get there, as it is one of Lizzie’s motivations. But, I’ll be taking June-August off from WIPpets and by summer’s end I should have this completely done (with luck) or giving the focus this has to another project.

  3. Uh-Oh….(O_O)

  4. Grandma is quite the interesting person! I just love your writing style, the vividness and immediacy of it. More, please. What? Oh, well, all right. I suppose you can wait until next Wednesday … 🙂

  5. Oh fantastic! Here’s a lovely adult right within earshot, and she’s of no use whatsoever. 🙂 Is there a child over 1o who doesn’t know the feeling? Well… maybe not the whole magic tree making the world wonky bit, but you know.

    • I think all kids find adults useless, until they need to get somewhere too far to walk away. And then, will we take them? Nope. 😉

      • Hmm… I’m not so sure. My kids seem to have all sorts of use for me, ranging mostly from seat cushion to slide. 😉 I remember adults being troublesome, mostly due to their meddling in the affairs of kids.

  6. Heh, another cliffhanger. Good job!

  7. Now why she can’t leave her bedroom is definitely a question worth asking. I hope Lizzie at least does that much before she panics.

  8. I’m creating all sorts of theories as to why Grandma can’t leave the room…hmmm. Great excerpt!
